Big, big 野球 game tonight (Saturday) here in Japan. Underdogs Chiba Lotte Marines (who battled into this postseason Japan Series after finishing 3rd in the Pacific League) face the Chunichi Dragons, with both teams starting their ace pitchers. The Marines are up 3 games to 2, so if they win tonight, they win it all. The Dragons are in their Nagoya stadium and were all but unbeatable there during the regular season (on the way to being Central League champs).
Everything favors the Dragons, but the Marines have consistently defied expectation, which is why they're where they are tonight.
Stay tuned.

[The Dragons and Marines drew 2-2 in an epic game--the longest in Japan Series history, and the first ever to go to 15 innings. It was a thrilling struggle, with both teams fighting on inning after inning in a display of sheer determination. The hours went by, but no one in the stadium moved until the game ended at midnight. And so tomorrow night the teams meet once more in Nagoya: a Marines' win gives them the Series; a Dragons win forces a Game 8. Watch this space.]
[Sunday: A little after 11PM, the Marines scored in extra innings and won Game 7. The miracle never ended. Against all odds, they had gone the distance against--on paper--superior opposition. Chiba Lotte Marines: Japan Series Champions 2010.]
