This is a summer greeting I sent to relatives in the UK
I’m spending this August summer holiday at home: doing something useful in the morning (weeding; cutting wood), something fun in the afternoon (swimming at the beach; going to exhibitions or places I haven’t been before), and eating delicious things in the evening (either at home or out).

The summer here is predictable, which is one of its joys because you can look forward to it and know that for a brief time, the pleasures can be yours. You can also make greeting cards that capture it! This one aurally introduces four of the greatest pleasures: the beer, the windbell, the fireworks displays, and the mosquito coil burning inside the ceramic pig (you hear the whine of a mosquito, groggy from the smoke, and someone swiping at it with the hand fan, after which it escapes).
Also shown: The electric fan (essential for keeping cool); the paper screens; baseball on television (every year at this time--the hottest days—there’s a high school baseball tournament from morning to evening: four games one after the other each day. Each prefecture is represented by a team chosen by earlier knockout rounds. The day before yesterday, our Kanagawa team won its first game, so we still have a chance*); the edamame boiled green soybeans that are in season and the perfect accompaniment to beer; a block of chilled white tofu topped with chopped chives; a red-topped container of soy sauce to pour a little on the tofu.
Ah, summer! I hope with this card you can share it with me in a small way.
