It was such a beautiful ride that I wanted to introduce other friends to it as soon as possible. And so three of us took our folding bicycles on the train, and set off from Mishima south into the Izu peninsula. A picture fixes the view from the cycle path beside the Kano river on a sunny Saturday.
Following the rivers, we reached Shuzenji, relaxed in a bath, and headed for the Baird Brewery. Sitting on the balcony overlooking the countryside, we took up pen and paper. These are fragments salvaged from the scribbles that your imagination might create its own symphony of a spring evening.
Above planted paddies at sunset, orange contrail crossed by a crow
The moon rises, and the bugs start to drone
We moved indoors to the bar.
Amber and froth; Reggae compensating for the chorus of May
There was reference to the Baird beers we were drinking:
Sunset… one more Rising Sun
Friends imbibe beer; Haiku explode like fireworks; Blame the Suruga Bay
The next day, I savored the experience.
A ride, a bath, a brewery; sunshine and good company
Bucolic Izu, green with spring
The Daiba and Kano rivers run through it
