Season ending:
only three cucumbers*
in a 100-yen bag at the farmer’s stand
*and smaller than usual ones at that. Cucumbers are thin, around 20 centimeters/9 inches long, and a “perfect” one sells in the local supermarkets for not much shy of 100 yen ($.90¢/£.70p). The farmer’s stands, which usually operate on trust (take what you want and put your money in the box) and which offer a variety of vegetables in 100-yen lots, had been having four perhaps slightly misshapen ones in a bag.
